Joe's Ultralight Backpacking

Life's Short, Wander Often!

Welcome/About My Site

Welcome to my website, a little project I started back in 1998 when my back and knees were beginning to show their age under heavy loads. I figured there had to be a better way, and sure enough I stumbled across the concepts of Ultralight backpacking. In the years since it's been a real treat to hear from folks who've shaved off the pounds, some now traveling ultralight and some not, but all lighter and happier. Best of all are the people who had given up backpacking due to health problems preventing them from carrying heavy loads, but now write to say that thanks to ultralight techniques they are actually able to get into the backcountry again! Hearing that brings a smile to my face as wide as the Sierras.

As you wander this site please remember that we're all different, we all have different equipment and techniques that work for us, we all have different goals and seek experiences unique to each of us. The information here offers a range of options and approaches. What works for others may not work for you. The important thing is to find out what works for you! Not Ultralight Joe's Way, not Bob's Way, not Ray's Way. Your Way!

Goals of this site.

DISCLAIMER: What follows are my observations/experiences with ultralight backpacking techniques and philosophies. Backpacking involves risks, however small. What works for me may not work for you. Darwinism is the law in the backcountry. Nature is, Nature happens. Period. How you handle it is up to you, and you alone. Educate yourself, make informed decisions, and you'll enjoy a lifetime of adventures others can only dream of. (I have no connection with any of the suppliers mentioned here.)
